Earlier at the same event, DPP Campaign Director Ben Khuleya criticized local Member of Parliament Owen Chomanika for stopping traditional chiefs from coming to the rally. Khuleya reminded everyone that the DPP helped Chomanika win his position in the 2019 elections. Khuleya promised Chomanika would lose the next election because people lost faith in him. He called the current Climate Change Minister greedy and undeserving of another term representing Chikwawa North. "He left our party to join Malawi Congress Party and kept 200 young people away from our rally because he knows he'll lose the election," Khuleya claimed. Several important DPP leaders attended, including youth director Norman Chisale, southern women's director Maria Mainja, party patron Dr. Joseph Mwandidya, and Yeremia Chihana.
