Police arrested a thirty-year-old man at a Bulawayo hotel for having dangerous drugs last week. Ishamael Dandadzi from Woodlands appeared before Magistrate Maxwell Ncube on Thursday after detectives caught him with marijuana and cough medicine. Authorities acted on a tip about Dandadzi keeping illegal substances at the hotel. The magistrate kept him locked up until March 18, when they will decide about bail. Court records show police spotted his Honda Fit car around 10 p.m. on March 11. When officers tried to stop him, Dandadzi drove away down Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Street and turned onto 13th Avenue. Police chased him until he finally stopped in the Ascot area. They searched his vehicle and found a bunch of illegal stuff hidden inside. The search turned up 445 grams of marijuana plus 37 bottles of Benylin containing codeine inside a black box. Officers also discovered six full bottles of Broncleer cough syrup and two half-empty ones. A green metal box held six bottles of Adco-Salterpyn cough syrup and four partially used bottles of the same medicine. Officials weighed the marijuana at the main post office with Dandadzi watching. The street value totaled ZiG13,350 for the marijuana and ZiG7,020 for the medicine. Prosecutor Mufaro Ndirayire told the court that Dandadzi had no permit or license to carry these substances. In another case, twenty-two-year-old Simbarashe Matsvimbo faces charges for beating up his elderly grandmother. He showed up in court Tuesday accused of hurting seventy-one-year-old Ester Matsvimbo. The young man claims he did nothing wrong. His next court date is March 25. The grandmother suffered bruises during an attack on March 7 around 5 PM. She angered her grandson by refusing to let him borrow her car. After she locked the gate, he lost his temper completely. Court documents say he hit her chest and neck multiple times with open hands and even bit her right hand during the assault.
