Eddie Cross, a big shot in Zimbabwe politics, has retracted his statement about the President's family being crooked. He couldn't provide any proof to back up his claims. Cross first made these accusations during an interview on South Africa's Newzroom405 TV station on March 31. The interview got a lot of people talking and led to some high-level pow-wows. In the interview, Cross blamed the country-wide protests on people being fed up with corruption. He also said the President's family was involved. But later, he admitted that he didn't have any hard evidence. On April 1, Cross met with the President at State House to apologize for dragging his family into the scandal. He admitted he had messed up and said, "I shouldn't have brought the President's family into this." He promised to give a report on general corruption claims from all over the country. When the President pushed Cross to name names, Cross pointed the finger at three of the President's sons. The next day, April 2, Cross returned to the State House to meet with the guys he accused. During this sit-down, he confessed that his accusations were just based on rumors and gossip. He had no proof. He apologized again and swore he would take back what he said about the President's family.
