Edo Police Shake Up With Agbonika at the Helm

The Police Service Commission picked Monday Agbonika as the brand new Police Commissioner for Edo State. He comes from the Police Mounted Troop division. Ikechukwu Ani, who speaks for the Commission, made this announcement. Agbonika takes the place of Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin.

Before starting his job, Agbonika was interviewed at the Commission. DIG Hashimu Argungu, the retired Chairman, led this meeting. Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, a former Supreme Court judge, joined them. Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, the Commission Secretary, attended as well.

Commission leaders told Agbonika he must act fast to cut down crime rates in Edo. They want him to dig into the recent murders happening across the state. The bosses warned him that his success depends on how he handles people arrested for these killings.

The Commission gave him clear advice: "You need to step up your game and earn public trust. Talk with community leaders. Keep records of every event and action you take. Make sure you tell the right people about what you're doing." They also warned him not to skip regular Police Departments by focusing only on Tactical Units.

Agbonika promised to follow the law when doing his job and said he would ask the Inspector General of Police for guidance whenever he needed it. Before coming to Edo, Agbonika served as Commissioner of Police for the Mounted Troop and as Force Equitation Officer at Force Headquarters.

He brings 32 years of police work to his new role. His experience covers many areas, such as Operations, Investigation, administration, Public Information, and running both Area and Divisional Police units.
