Malaysia plans to construct a new school for remote village children through government cooperation between education and defense ministries. The Jiwa Murni program will establish the facility at Kampung Serudung Laut, Kalabakan to help students access learning opportunities. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek announced the project has begun and local residents strongly back the initiative. She visited the location recently and found transportation routes work well for the construction timeline. The minister spoke after attending a language institution anniversary event that Sabah's governor opened. Temporary education services already serve the community through special reading programs for area students. Teachers travel to the village on rotating schedules through arrangements made with regional education officials. About 30 children currently attend these classes and officials expect enrollment numbers to climb over time. The Sabah Education Department supplies instructors for this interim educational support. These programs bridge the gap until permanent school construction finishes. Sabah faces challenges with aging school buildings that need major repairs and replacements across the state. Officials currently manage 390 separate upgrade projects to fix deteriorating educational facilities. Workers have finished 230 of these improvement efforts and continue building at 67 additional sites. Another 93 projects remain at planning stages before construction teams can start work. The total budget for all school renovation and building projects reaches 6.078 billion ringgit.
