Education officials gathered at Kasolongo village in Machakos County to honor the life of Johnson Nzioka, who served as chairperson of the Kenya Primary Schools Heads Association. Principal Secretary for Education Belio Kipsang described Nzioka as a distinguished educator whose contributions created an irreplaceable gap in the education sector. Nzioka passed away following a road accident near the Athi River. The late education leader actively participated in implementing a Competency-Based Curriculum designed to help students develop skills based on their abilities. Kipsang noted that Nzioka played a crucial role during the transition of students from grade 8 to grade 9. Before his untimely death, he had planned to organize meetings between county school head chairpersons and ministry officials regarding the upcoming grade 9 to 10 transition. The 51-year-old educator's burial ceremony brought together numerous education leaders from the national government, county government, and private sector. Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary General Collins Oyuu attended the service and praised Nzioka for his exceptional cooperation with the teachers' union. According to Oyuu, Nzioka helped establish peace between school administrators and teaching staff throughout the country. Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti recognized Nzioka during the ceremony for his dedication to improving education standards. She announced plans to construct a water borehole at Kasolongo Primary School as a lasting memorial to honor his contributions. The project will serve as a reminder of his significant impact on the teaching profession across Kenya and his commitment to educational development throughout his career.
