Airlines grabbed top honors at Bangladesh's biggest aviation awards ceremony Saturday night. Emirates took home the crown for Best International Airline after beating fierce competition from other carriers. US-Bangla Airlines snatched the Best Domestic Airline trophy for their stellar service to local passengers. Saudia Cargo walked away with the Best Cargo Airline award for their freight operations. The ceremony took place at the fancy Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel with hundreds of aviation industry leaders watching. More than 3,000 frequent flyers voted online to pick their favorite airlines across 23 different categories. Taufiq Uddin Ahmed received a special Lifetime Achievement Award for building up Bangladesh's travel industry over many years. The Galaxy Bangladesh founder has spent decades promoting tourism and helping the sector grow stronger. Airlines competed hard for recognition from passengers who fly regularly around the world. Government railway secretary Md. Fahimul Islam showed up as the main guest speaker for the evening event. Share Trip CEO Sadia Haque joined other VIPs on stage to hand out the shiny trophies. Twelve airlines earned spots as Most Popular Airline Brands after the public voted for their favorites. An expert jury panel with eleven members checked all the survey results before announcing winners. The Bangladesh Monitor newspaper has run these awards since 2007 to celebrate excellence among airlines serving the country. Organizers want to push airlines to keep improving their customer service and stay competitive with rivals.
