Police arrested a 28-year-old woman from Mutare for allegedly stealing kambucha drinks valued at $114,543 from her workplace. Netsai Muredzi stood before Magistrate Perseverance Makala, facing theft charges under Section 113(1) of the Criminal Law Act. She claimed she did not steal anything and will return to court on March 14 for her trial to continue. Prosecutor Chris Munyuku told the court Muredzi took 12,781 cases of kambucha drinks from the company between November 2023 and September 2024. Her job at Kambucha Fresh Zimbabwe included receiving products from headquarters, tracking sales, and sending reports back to the main office. The prosecutor said she deliberately took company property and ignored the rights of Kambucha Fresh Zimbabwe. The company discovered missing products during an inventory check last August. They launched a detailed investigation covering the period from November 2023 through September 2, 2024. This investigation confirmed that thousands of drink cases had vanished from the warehouse. Someone reported the theft to police officers, who started investigating what happened. Muredzi quit her job before the police caught her, possibly trying to escape punishment for her actions. Investigators eventually tracked her down and arrested her. The court accepted evidence from the investigation as part of the official record against her. Mr. Munyuku explained that a team of specialists who examined the financial records determined Muredzi had committed the crime she stands accused of today.
