A lawyer named Erias Nalukoola Luyimbazi will run in an important election for the National Unity Platform party. He wants to become the new leader of an area called Kawempe North. The party leaders picked him up today at their main office in Kavule, Makerere.
Last week, Erias and nine other people met to share their ideas about helping Kawempe North. They talked about what they would do to improve life for everyone there. Two smart people, Andrew Karamaji and Dr Judith Nalukwago, helped run the meeting.
The election needs to happen because the previous leader, Muhammad Ssegirinya, died on January 9. Many people wanted to take his place, including Muhammad Luwemba Lusswa, who used to help Ssegirinya with his work. Other people who wanted the job included Umar Magara, Saulo Kulya Zziwa, and Salim Serunkuuma, whom people call Mafu Mafu.
Before this, Erias worked as a helper for the Democratic Party. He left that job because he did not agree with something important. The Democratic Party made a deal with another group called the National Resistance Movement, but they did not tell anyone about it first. Erias thought this was wrong, and he decided to leave.
