The West African Examinations Council has released provisional results from the 2024 certificate examination for private candidates. Students can check their results by visiting the official WAEC website immediately. This marks the completion of the second series of examinations administered to non-school candidates during the academic year.
The examination board reported that 38,316 individuals participated, with females outnumbering males. Specifically, 17,596 male candidates and 21,131 female candidates completed their papers. Despite registration, according to records provided by examination officials, 1,354 people did not attend their scheduled examinations.
Officials identified several irregularities during both the testing and evaluation periods. Following standard procedures, the examination authority has temporarily withheld subject results for 303 candidates pending further review. Additionally, complete results for 108 individuals remain suspended until investigations conclude regarding potential examination violations.
Performance analysis for English Language shows mixed outcomes among participants. Approximately 55% of candidates achieved passing grades ranging from A1 through C6. Another 13.49% received D7 grades, just meeting minimum requirements. The remaining candidates scored lower, with 12.90% earning E8 grades and 13.45% failing with F9 grades.
Based on performance metrics, mathematics proved challenging for many candidates. Only 37.44% secured passing grades between A1 and C6. The distribution of lower grades included 11% receiving D7 marks and 12.30% earning E8 scores. The failure rate reached 37.42%, with candidates receiving F9 grades, nearly matching the pass rate.
Integrated Science showed better results than Mathematics, with 53.31% of candidates achieving passing grades. Social Studies demonstrated the strongest performance among core subjects, with 87.88% of candidates earning grades between A1 and C6. Failure rates were significantly lower at 18.46% for Integrated Science and just 5.76% for Social Studies.
WAEC has issued warnings about fraudsters claiming they can modify examination results for payment. Officials emphasize that their database remains secure against unauthorized changes. Educational institutions and employers should verify results through official channels by accessing the verification service available on the WAEC website rather than accepting printed copies without confirmation.
The examination council expressed appreciation to everyone who contributed to administering the tests and processing results. Their combined efforts enabled the timely completion of both examination activities and resulted in publication for the benefit of candidates seeking certification during this academic period.
