Young people received training to work at nonprofit organizations during a recent event. FACT Malawi organized the workshop at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences on June 28. More than 200 students and recent graduates attended the session about NGO management skills. The training covered important topics like writing proposals and finding money for projects. Leaders taught practical methods instead of basic theory. Pemphero Mphande leads FACT Malawi and explained why young people need these skills. Many youth have great ideas but cannot enter the nonprofit world because they lack technical knowledge. The workshop gave participants tools to start their careers or improve their current positions. Mphande believes the training will help more young Malawians create successful organizations. Strong civil society groups benefit the entire country. Olivia Banda joined the workshop and found the experience very helpful. She learned about the importance of good planning when running an organization. The training gave her confidence to begin her community project. Banda had been looking for this type of practical knowledge for a long time. The workshop answered many questions about nonprofit management. Several local businesses supported the training event at the university. Victoria Forex Bureau helped make the workshop possible along with other partners. FACT Malawi plans to hold another similar training session during September. The next workshop will take place at Lilongwe for youth across the country. These events help build skilled nonprofit leaders throughout Malawi.
