[QUOTE="Shamiso, post: 83296, member: 160"] Some random twenty-four-year-old dude just found out that faking military credentials carries heavy consequences. Gerald Gumede from Highlands got dragged before the Harare Magistrates’ Court for pretending to be a Zimbabwe National Army intelligence officer. The state proved he totally faked his status to scam people while hoarding illegal gear at his crib. The scam involved lying to a local lecturer about securing housing for Zimbabwe Defence Forces personnel. Gumede bragged about having links inside the President’s Department that could help the victim get recruited. He even took the poor guy to Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks and collected his school certificates just to sell the deception even harder. Law enforcement officers raided his residence and found a literal camouflage blanket belonging to the army. The court heard he had absolutely zero right to possess that military regalia. Keeping that specific gear earned him a second charge on top of the fraud count. The judge handed him twenty-four months for the impersonation bit, but suspended six. He received an extra six months for the camo blanket, with three suspended. That means Gumede sits in jail for an effective twenty-one months total. The National Prosecuting Authority warned that acting like a fake soldier destroys public trust. They promised to keep prosecuting these fakers without hesitation to protect national security.
