A college teacher from Gombe State sits behind bars after sharing a video on social media. Dr. Abubakar Ahmad works at the Federal College of Horticulture and faces serious charges. His mother Maryam Abubakar and wife Fatimah Muhammad visited journalists in Bauchi to ask for help. They want Governor Bala Mohammed to step in and free their family member. The women made emotional appeals during their visit to the media office. Police arrested the lecturer after he answered their invitation about a complaint. Shamsudeen Mohammed filed the complaint against Dr. Abubakar for sharing the controversial video. Shamsudeen happens to be the governor's son who felt damaged by the social media post. The video had been going around for more than seven years before Dr. Abubakar shared it. Many other people had already passed along the same video content. Dr. Abubakar's family struggles without him at home since his arrest. His mother says he strongly supports the PDP party and Governor Bala personally. She told reporters that her entire family backs the PDP because of her son's loyalty. The wife cried during her speech about their difficult situation. She begged Shamsudeen to think about their suffering and drop the case. Lawyer Ahmad Hassan represents Dr. Abubakar in court on multiple charges. The charges include defamation and making false statements that hurt someone's reputation. Court sessions have happened twice already before sending the case back to police. The teacher remains locked up until his next court date on July 9th. His legal team filed papers asking higher judges to review the whole situation.
