Young people across Uganda can compete for cash prizes to enhance their farming practices. Heifer International Uganda started the fourth AYuTe Africa Challenge Uganda competition. The contest provides youth with funding and training to develop innovative farm technology. Minister Fred Bwino Kyakulaga opened the competition at a ceremony. Winners will share 222 million shillings and learn business skills. The competition has helped many farmers since its inception in 2022. Over the past three years, more than 600 young people have joined the contest. Twelve winners received funding, and their inventions helped 8000 small farmers. The new farm tools helped crops grow more efficiently and animals stay healthier. Farmers made more money after using these inventions. Uganda aims to transition from small-scale farming to large-scale commercial farming. The government believes young inventors can lead this change. Women make up 30 percent of the people who reach the final round. Country Director William Matovu says Uganda can become a leader in farm technology across Africa. The competition teaches young people about production, sales, and financial management.
