A father plans to take legal action against top police officials in The Gambia after his son's alleged killer escaped from custody.

Alhaji Baba Ceesay wants answers about his son's death. His son worked as a taxi driver and was found dead in Foni after picking up a passenger named Ebou Secka.

Police say Secka jumped from a moving car as officers drove him back to Mile 2 prison from the court. But a jail inmate told the father a different story. The inmate claimed police let Secka go free on orders "from the top."

"I cried when I heard this," said Ceesay. He asked the police about it right away. They told him not to trust the inmate's words, saying the man was not thinking clearly.

Ceesay believes the inmate spoke the truth. He wants the police to find Secka and explain what happened. "The truth about my son's death must come out," he said. "Those responsible must face punishment."

Police chief Seedy Touray spoke on the radio Tuesday about the case. He said Secka wore handcuffs during transport. Touray promised police were working hard to catch him again.

The grieving father plans to sue both the Inspector General of Police and the Minister of Interior if they fail to catch Secka. He demands justice for his murdered son.
