The government started handing out fertilizer for the 2024-2025 growing season at Masintha Ground on Thursday, April 3, 2025. Many people in Kawale are scratching their heads about this move. After all, farmers are busy harvesting their crops right now, not planting new ones. Some women were overheard saying that only people who got the fertilizer would vote for Chakwera in the September 16 elections. They also had some choice words for the government, calling it incompetent and questioning its decision-making skills. Many Malawians are wondering why the government is giving out fertilizer at this time of year, months after the rainy season started back in November 2024. A young man at the scene said he was worried that the timing could lead to food shortages. He pointed out that farmers can't really use the fertilizer effectively right now. Two trucks showed up at Masintha Ground with the fertilizer shipment. One of them, with the license plate KU 10466, was seen carrying the goods. Many of the people lined up for the AIP fertilizer were wearing MCP party clothes. There were armed police officers at the venue to keep things under control. An MCP youth member seemed to be doing ADMARCs job, using a megaphone to call out the names of people who were supposed to get the fertilizer. He was decked out in MCP gear, complete with the party's black rooster symbol. Another group of MCP security personnel was in charge of keeping an eye on things near the fertilizer trucks. They were wearing party reflectors with the MCP logo on them. Several young people were spotted in red golf shirts with VK initials, which the reporter thought might be a reference to Vera Kamtukule. Later on, a white pickup truck pulled up to Masintha Ground. It had Vera Kamtukule's name and picture on it. With all the party-branded stuff around, the whole event felt more like a political rally than a government program.
