Final Fantasy VII Revelation is bringing Cloud and his crew back to a revamped Midgar, and fans will get to roam far more of the city. Square Enix gave players a fresh look at its plans during Paris Games Week, where director Naoki Hamaguchi shared some key details about the last part of the remake trilogy. Here's the neat bit. A place called the Midgar Fissure will let players head deep beneath the city and check out areas that were not open before. And Midgar itself has changed, which may give fans of the first game a lot of fresh ground to explore. Then there's the piano game. That feature is back, but it has more going for it this time. New ways to play will let fans try other types of instruments, while extra story scenes will shed more light on Tifa and her past. Pretty neat for a side activity. As for the scale, Hamaguchi has made some bold claims. He thinks Revelation will beat Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in both size and scope, though it's not clear if he means the map, the amount of stuff to do, or both. Either way, the full world from the old PlayStation game is part of the plan. Oddly enough, the first run may still offer about as much as Rebirth did. That's what Hamaguchi had said before, which leaves some room for fans to guess how much of the new game will be open from the start. More replay value, perhaps, but that's still up in the air. On the gameplay front, an early hands-on test at gamescom put much of the focus on combat. The game did not seem any more pushy with its map hints than Rebirth, though less hand-holding could help players find things at their own pace. That would be a nice change. One catch, though. Fans have yet to see video of these new features in action. Hamaguchi says a fresh clip is on its way, while The Game Awards could be another chance for a big reveal. No firm date has been set for that footage. Meanwhile, Square Enix plans to bring the game to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 next year. With the third chapter set to wrap up the tale, there's a fair bit for fans to keep an eye on.
