Flames coach Kalisto Pasuwa just picked 29 players for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Namibia and Tunisia. The team faces Namibia at home first - they'll play at Bingu National Stadium on March 20. After that, they'll fly to Tunis where they take on Tunisia at Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi on March 24.
Pasuwa included eleven players who play outside Malawi. Three guys - goalkeeper William Thole plus defenders Gomezgani Chirwa and Nickson Nyasulu - moved to Zimbabwe teams last month. He also called up Richard Mbulu and Lloyd Njaliwa, who both play for teams in Mozambique. Star striker Gabadinho Mhango, who plays in South Africa, was cut as well.
The squad features several other international talents. Denis Chembezi plays for Al-Qasim SC in Iraq. Charles Petro represents a team in Romania. Lanjesi Nkhoma and Patrick Mwaungulu both compete for Don Bosco in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Striker Chawanangwa Kaonga, who plays for Zanaco in Zambia, rounds out the foreign-based players. All these guys need to show up in Lilongwe by March 13, 2025.
