Okay, so four people from other countries - China, Singapore, and Sierra Leone - got hauled in front of a judge in Harare on Tuesday. The cops think they were scheming to rob somebody. They wanted to hit a Chinese guy smuggling 4 kilos of gold to Zambia through the Chirundu Border Post. The suspects are Gohga Kan, a 34-year-old from Singapore, Wu Ke Wen, a 35-year-old from China, and two 27-year-olds from Sierra Leone named Aruna Saidu and Foday Kamara. The judge sent them to jail for now and told them they had to ask the High Court if they wanted to get out on bail. The National Prosecuting Authority says the whole thing started on February 27, 2025. That's when Kan talked to a local guy named Ozias Matsikete about robbing a car carrying gold from Harare to Zambia. Kan bragged about having two guns and wanted Matsikete to help him find two more people to pull it off. But Matsikete went straight to the CID Homicide detectives and spilled the beans. Kan told Matsikete to set up a meeting in Karoi on March 1. He wanted to check out a good spot for the ambush. He picked Karoi because it's close to Zambia, and that's where he wanted to sneak the stolen gold. During the meeting, some detectives pretended to be Matsikete's accomplices. They hopped in a Mercedes-Benz to meet Kan, who was cruising around in a white Toyota Prado. Kan showed them where he wanted to do the ambush. He pointed out some potholes that would make the target car slow down and be easier to rob. On March 8, Kan and Matsikete met up again to nail down the details. They settled on March 9 for the big day. That's when Kan introduced Matsikete to Saidu and Kamara. He promised to bring the guns for the job. The detectives had all the intel they needed. They cooked up a sting operation to stop the robbery and catch the bad guys. Early on March 9, Kan called Matsikete and said they were following a Toyota Prado with Zambian plates. They thought it had the gold. The detectives moved fast and nabbed the Prado at Nyabira Tollgate. They arrested the driver, Joseph Phiri, and his passenger, Liu Wieqiang. Kan and Wu got caught in a Honda Fit. When the cops searched the Toyota Prado, they found over 4 kilos of gold stashed under the car radio. Meanwhile, the police in Karoi arrested Saidu and Kamara. They also found two unregistered 9mm guns that were probably meant for the robbery. The suspects will appear in court on March 18. The cops are still investigating the case.
