They hopped in a Mercedes-Benz to meet Kan, who was cruising around in a white Toyota Prado. Kan showed them where he wanted to do the ambush. He pointed out some potholes that would make the target car slow down and be easier to rob. On March 8, Kan and Matsikete met up again to nail down the details. They settled on March 9 for the big day. That's when Kan introduced Matsikete to Saidu and Kamara. He promised to bring the guns for the job. The detectives had all the intel they needed. They cooked up a sting operation to stop the robbery and catch the bad guys. Early on March 9, Kan called Matsikete and said they were following a Toyota Prado with Zambian plates. They thought it had the gold. The detectives moved fast and nabbed the Prado at Nyabira Tollgate. They arrested the driver, Joseph Phiri, and his passenger, Liu Wieqiang.
