Former Health CS Susan Nakhumicha talked about her life after President William Ruto fired her from his Cabinet last June. Ruto removed most Cabinet members during big protests led by young Kenyans called Gen Z. These protests happened because people were angry about the Finance Bill 2024. The President kept only Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and later built a new Cabinet with different people. Nakhumicha found out she lost her job from watching television. Ruto said he created this new Cabinet team to help bring Kenyans together. She shared her story at Wafula Chebukati's memorial service in Kitale. Chebukati had served as head of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. Nakhumicha explained that these days, she spends her time growing food. She described how Gen Z protesters wanted changes, and many officials, including her, lost their jobs. Nakhumicha mentioned a bishop who talked about how people got fired during President Moi's time through radio announcements. Her firing came through TV instead. She heard the entire Cabinet needed to leave their positions and noticed many Kenyans seemed happy about this decision. Since losing her government role, Nakhumicha says she trusts God and works as a farmer. She grows cabbages and sells them near Cherenganyi because she has no other employment. President Ruto stated back in June 2024 that changing the Cabinet would make the government work better for citizens. He wanted the government to become more effective, clear about its actions, and responsible to the public.
