Dr. Kizza Besigye, a brave man who speaks up against unfair things in Uganda, looks very sick. His friends and family feel worried after seeing him in court last Friday. He has stopped eating food because he thinks it's wrong that he stays in prison. The police put Dr. Besigye in Luzira Prison. They say he had guns when he wasn't supposed to have them. But the biggest court in Uganda said they made a mistake by keeping him in a special army court. Regular people like Dr. Besigye should go to normal courts instead. Dr. Besigye couldn't come to court on Wednesday because he felt unwell. He wrote a small note telling the judge he was sick. When he finally came to court on Friday, everyone saw how weak he looked. His lawyer, Mr. Lukwago, felt very sad seeing his friend look this way. The judges said Dr. Besigye could leave prison if he promised to come back for his trial. But the prison guards won't let him go. They say they have different rules to follow. This makes Mr. Lukwago very angry because he thinks it breaks the law. Dr. Besigye's wife, Winnie, and their son feel very worried about him. They want the doctors who know him best to check on him, but the prison won't allow that. Only prison doctors can see him, and his lawyers think these doctors might not know enough to help him properly. Winnie wrote an internet message asking President Museveni to free her husband. She believes the government keeps Dr. Besigye in prison against the law. The court will look at his case again on February 20th, but his friends and family hope he can leave prison before then because they fear for his health.
