Free rides for Bishkek locals in 30 million park

A new $30 million amusement park will appear in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, surprising even local council members. The project comes from Moscow-based nonprofit Eurasia just days after tensions arose over a Kyrgyz bathhouse raid in Russia. Social media buzzed about free rides for residents at this massive park spanning 10 hectares at the intersection of Zhaiyl Baatyr and Ala-Archa streets. The timing raised eyebrows as Kyrgyz banks recently stopped processing yuan transfers for Russian clients due to fears of American sanctions.

Bishkek Vice Mayor Azamat Kadyrov explained the deal: Eurasia will build the park, give it to the city, and maintain it free for 25 years at $200,000 monthly. All attractions will be municipal, with free admission through an electronic queue app. Some council members worried that free rides might lead to the quick destruction of the facilities. They questioned why a foreign fund would take on such expenses without profit motives.

Kadyrov assured skeptics that Eurasia would earn money through food court subleasing rights on 800 square meters of land. Despite doubts, the city council approved the construction, with the first stage set to finish in June. The Eurasia organization started in April 2024 with the goal of strengthening post-Soviet integration. Their 2024 financial statements showed expenses exceeding 10.5 billion rubles on targeted activities.
