Residents completed 33.5 million single-day journeys throughout the year. Personal shopping motivated nearly one-third of day trips, whereas overnight travelers primarily visited friends and family or pursued recreational activities. Domestic tourism generated 60.4 billion rand in total expenditures. Private vehicles and taxis remained the dominant transportation methods, though economic pressures have prompted many South Africans to curtail their travel plans.
