A court in Tarkwa sent two friends to jail for taking gold stones from a shop. Ibrahim Asante and Kwame Ntiamoah must work in prison for eight months each.

Both men said they took the stones worth GH¢15,000 from a grinding shop in Kaniankor Top, near Nsuaem. They worked in small gold mines before their arrest.

Police Inspector Patrick Essien told Judge Charles Owusu Nsiah what happened. The shop owner, Francis Ankomah, had let Asante work at his grinding shop for money.

On January 1, Ankomah gave Asante GH¢320 for food. Then Ankomah left to spend New Year with his family in Adansi Akrofuom.

Two days later, Asante and Ntiamoah went into the shop and took gold stones. Then Asante made a strange move—he called Ankomah to say Ntiamoah had stolen the stones.

Ankomah came back fast. He found Ntiamoah and brought him to the police in Nsuaem. At the station, Ntiamoah said Asante asked him to help take the stones.

The police then caught Asante. He said they each made GH¢460 from the stones, paid GH¢200 to clean the gold, and gave GH¢200 more to helpers.

But Ntiamoah told a different story. He said Asante gave him just GH¢150 as his share of the money.
