The Gambian government has failed to fix voting rules, betraying everyone who died fighting for democracy. This broken promise hurts those who gave their lives for freedom. It also harms Gambians living abroad who continue to deal with political problems back home. Changing election systems matters deeply as a way to honor brave citizens like Solo Sandeng. Many UDP party members died or suffered injuries when standing up for fair elections. These heroes believed every vote should count equally. The government keeps using marble instead of modern ballots, disrespecting what these people fought for. Leaders in power and opposition groups both ignore serious election problems. People supporting opposition candidates often fail to see how unfair voting hurts their chances to win. They collect money from supporters instead of pushing for better election laws. This approach never leads to victory. Gambians who moved to other countries could help improve their homeland but face rejection as outsiders. They lack the same rights as local citizens to influence government decisions. Many cannot vote from overseas or participate in elections. The government creates resentment by ignoring these important voices from abroad. The refusal to update voting rules damages democracy throughout The Gambia. Organizations like ECOWAS and AU should demand better standards. Each delay costs the government respect both locally and worldwide. All Gambians deserve equal voting rights regardless of where they currently live. Fair elections create trust between citizens and officials. They ensure that leaders remain honest and open about their actions. Without proper reforms, corruption spreads easily, and public confidence disappears. President Barrow looks bad when he ignores both past sacrifices and present struggles of all Gambians. French political expert Maurice Duverger would likely say the Barrow government betrays democracy fighters and excludes Gambians overseas. To properly honor those who sacrificed everything and bring hope to future generations, officials must quickly improve how elections operate throughout the country.
