The police chief, Seedy Touray, spoke up after his team caught some bad people. Many had made fun of the police during their work to catch robbers. The chief said they accepted the mean comments because it was part of their job. Chief Touray promised he would leave his job if the police couldn't keep people safe. He asked everyone to give the police time and help when crimes happen. The police need people to tell them what they see. The chief explained that robberies aren't new in The Gambia. Back in 2014, robbers attacked GTBank in Bakau. One of those robbers helped rob Access Bank recently. Even the Central Bank near the president's house was robbed when Yahya Jammeh was president. Chief Touray felt sad because people forgot these old cases and blamed the police for everything. The police discovered that the same group of bad people had robbed many places. They attacked Access Bank in Senegambia, Gam-Food near Denton Bridge, and Hella Shop in Banjul. The police caught three men named Ansumana Jarju, Abdoulie Jallow, and Ousainou Jobarteh. The police found money from the robberies. They found D599,000 and CFA 710,000 from the Hella Shop robbery. They also found D390,000 from a taxi driver who helped rob Access Bank. Chief Touray made a new rule about cars. Every car must have number plates on Gambian roads. The robbers used a BMW without number plates when they robbed places. Anyone who drives without number plates will pay big fines, and the police will take their car away.
