The Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry kicked off its 18th Trade Fair International-Gambia this Tuesday. They held the launch at their Kerr Jula office, bringing together food vendors from across business sectors to learn about what to expect during the upcoming trade fair. This major event runs from April 26 through May 25, 2025, spanning almost a full month of commercial activity. GCCI Director Fatou Jallow described the event as a key platform for innovation, teamwork, and economic growth both inside and outside the country. Jallow mentioned that TFGI 2025 will feature over 500 stalls displaying many different products and services - their biggest exhibition yet. The fair welcomes business people from the Ecowas region, Europe, and Asia, showing growing international interest in Gambian businesses and opportunities. Jallow emphasized that the fair celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit driving the Gambian economy forward. She pointed out how it helps businesses of all sizes connect, exchange ideas, and build partnerships that boost development and prosperity. The event serves as more than just a display of goods—it creates lasting business relationships. Saul Frazer, who chairs the Trade Fair Committee, stressed that GCCI aims to help businesses access export markets as part of promoting international and regional trade. He noted that, according to the Private Sector Development Strategy, Small and Medium Enterprises make up more than 90% of Gambian businesses. These SMEs create jobs and reduce unemployment throughout the country. Frazer mentioned that last year's trade fair attracted over 100,000 visitors in four weeks, and they expect even more this year. The 2025 fair will host about 500 participants from the ECOWAS region, Europe, and Asia. He assured everyone that all arrangements for a successful event were complete, with officials ready to address any concerns. Frazer added that stalls will go to those who register first, and all registration fees must be paid at Guaranty Trust Bank. Africell's Senior PR and Events Manager, Waka Jagne, explained that his company believes in connecting people through technology and partnerships that strengthen businesses and communities. This belief drives their partnership with GCCI to support a platform that unites visionaries, investors, and industry leaders from various sectors. Jagne added that trade and commerce form the foundation of economic progress, with trade fairs creating opportunities, jobs, and innovation. He stated that Africell remains dedicated to backing initiatives that help build a thriving business environment, as the company deeply cares about Gambian development. FSQA Principal Food Inspector Abdoulie Jallow participated in the launch event to address food safety concerns. He stressed the importance of maintaining proper hygiene standards for all food vendors at the upcoming trade fair. The emphasis on food safety reflects the commitment to quality and health standards throughout the month-long exhibition. His participation highlights how the trade fair organizers consider every aspect of the event, from business opportunities to public health and safety.
