MP Samuel Abdulai Jinapor wants Ghana to lead the charge for democracy in the Sahel area. The Damongo representative spoke up during Parliament when they discussed money for the Foreign Affairs Ministry. He reminded everyone that Ghana stands for democracy and should push these values when talking with nearby countries. He especially mentioned Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. Jinapor pointed to Article 40 in the Ghana Constitution. This part tells the government it must support democratic rule when dealing with other nations. The three countries he named currently have military leaders running things. Jinapor believes Ghana should keep speaking up for democracy in these places without backing down. He said Ghana could work toward regional teamwork but never at the cost of basic democratic ideas. The country needs to help bring back citizen-chosen governments in those three nations. The bigger goal remains making sure all West African countries and eventually the entire continent run on democratic systems where people have a real say. According to Jinapor, democracy forms the base for proper government, just like Ghana has. He urged the government to take charge in efforts to restore normal constitutional rule across the Sahel region. This would ensure that citizens decide who leads them. He asked Parliament to back the Foreign Affairs Ministry budget because it would help Ghana shine among other nations.
