Ghana just shipped a bunch of their people over to Jamaica to help clean up after that hurricane. We're talking 49 army engineers and five doctors landing at Norman Manley International Airport. Jamaica's Foreign Minister, Kamina Johnson Smith, was there to meet them, thanking Ghana for the assistance. This whole thing got moving after Jamaica's Prime Minister Andrew Holness asked Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama for a hand. The head of the group, a guy named Emanuel Asia, said his team is ready to get to work. He mentioned the long connection between the countries, going way back to the Kwame Nkrumah days. The engineers are supposed to help rebuild whatever got wrecked, and the doctors will pitch in with medical stuff for the hit communities. Over in Ghana, President Mahama framed this as a solidarity move, a way to help out a fellow nation and also hook up tighter with the diaspora. Hurricane Melissa did a number on a bunch of parishes. The place is still trying to get back to normal, so the extra manpower from Ghana is a big deal for the recovery push. The minister called it proof of a deep partnership, even before the two had official diplomatic relations.
