Acting Sports Minister Kazembe Kazembe sent off young Zimbabwe athletes heading to compete against other African nations. The team carries 277 people total with 197 athletes ready to battle for medals. They will fight hard at the African Union Sports Council Region 5 Youth Games happening in Windhoek, Namibia. Zimbabwe finished fourth place at the last games held in Malawi during 2022. The team collected 84 medals that year with 12 gold, 24 silver and 48 bronze prizes. Team officials want to grab more than 20 gold medals this time around. Deputy chef de mission Precious Shonhayi believes they can turn previous silver medals into gold ones. Athletes from 10 southern African countries will compete against each other in Namibia.
