A funeral service for former election chief Wafula Chebukati turned violent Friday when attackers targeted Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya. The ceremony happened in Kimilili town before chaos erupted. Natembeya says Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau organized the attack after police had asked Bisau to leave the funeral grounds. Things went bad fast when Bisau allegedly left but later returned with angry supporters. Police stepped in and made Bisau exit the area again. Natembeya claims Bisau then placed young troublemakers along roads near the funeral. These individuals threw rocks at the Governor's cars when his team tried to leave. The attack hurt several people, including Natembeya's driver, Kaitano Siphas. He suffered neck injuries as he tried to protect the Governor from flying stones. Two police officers also needed medical help after they were hurt during the stone-throwing incident. The injured continue receiving treatment at local medical facilities. Natembeya strongly criticized the violence as both disgraceful and barbaric. He said Bisau ruined a sacred mourning ceremony by turning it into space for political drama. The Governor asked police to investigate everyone involved fully. He stressed that leaders should behave respectfully during solemn events instead of starting fights. The Governor promised Trans Nzoia residents his government would keep working for them despite these threats. Natembeya wants peace and safety across the county. He believes intimidation tactics cannot stop progress or prosperity. Local authorities have yet to announce any arrests or charges related to the funeral violence.
