Govt Praises Harare Waste Ops for Clear System

Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube visited the Geo Pomona Waste Management facility yesterday. He walked around with company boss Dr. Dilesh Nguwaya. After looking at everything, Ncube said he liked how clearly the company runs its business. Everything is open for anyone to see. The government is happy about this national project.

"I looked at their receipts myself," Ncube said after the tour. "Anyone bringing trash knows exactly what they'll pay." The minister talked highly about the staff working there. He noticed how smart the engineers seemed. They explained things well and showed real know-how about waste handling. Before his visit, he never realized how effective garbage sorting could be.

The facility employs 200 people who work around the clock, which impressed the Finance Minister greatly. During his visit, he mentioned seeing their water-cleaning system. The water looked pure enough to drink, though the staff suggested waiting before trying it. Ncube called the entire operation "phenomenal" and praised everyone involved for their dedication.

A new power plant starts construction at the site this June. Ncube believes it will add good energy to the national power grid. He expects electricity prices between 10 and 16 cents per kilowatt hour. "Most of these projects will make money," he said. The minister left feeling confident about how the waste management company handles its responsibilities.
