Kenya's star runner, Kibiwott Kandie, plans to start 2025 with a win. He will race at the Hong Kong Bridge Half Marathon on Sunday.

The big race has earned a gold rating from World Athletics. This marks its second year as a major running event. Hong Kong leader John Lee said about 8,000 runners will join the race.

Kandie ran well early last year. He won in Barcelona with a time of 59:22 last February. But he missed his chance for the Paris Olympics when he came in sixth at a race in May. Later, he ran the Berlin Marathon and finished 13th.

Yet Kandie shines best in half marathons. He broke records back in 2020, running the distance in 57:32. Other runners have beaten that mark since then. Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo ran it in 57:31. Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha did even better with 57:30.

The fast Kenyan keeps winning big races. He won twice more in Valencia. He ran 57:40 in 2023 and 58:10 in 2022. He also won in Prague and Ras Al Khaimah in 2020.

The race will take place on a bridge-tunnel path over the sea, which stretches farther than any other bridge-tunnel in the world. Local runners will race next to top athletes from many lands.

At age 28, Kandie stands as one of the best half-marathon runners alive. This weekend could bring him another win to start the new year.
