Zimbabwe leaders have started planning their biggest national celebration of the year. The government will honor war heroes on August 11 at National Heroes Acre in Harare. Information Minister Jenfan Muswere told reporters that cabinet members gave their approval for the event. Around 222 families will attend the main ceremony at the famous monument. Other parts of the country will hold their celebrations at the same time. Defense Forces Day will happen one day later at Rufaro Stadium on August 12. Cabinet ministers also decided who gets special awards this year. A former Soviet official named Vladimir Shubia will receive the top honor called the Royal Order of Munhumutapa. A brave teenager from Bindura who saved two children from a house fire will get the Silver Cross of Zimbabwe. The first female African doctor in the country will receive an award named after Robert Gabriel Mugabe. Lawmakers approved a new bill about dangerous weapons and toxic materials. The proposed law would ban people from making or keeping biological weapons inside Zimbabwe. The bill covers everything from creating these weapons to moving them through the country. Government officials want to stop anyone from using deadly germs or poisons as weapons. The new rules would make it illegal to import or export these dangerous materials. Cabinet members heard reports about several other important topics. They discussed major projects for the next 100 days and approved a foundation that helps people return to normal life. President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently attended independence celebrations in Mozambique. Officials also reviewed a global meeting about reducing disaster risks around the world.
