Businessman Mike Chimombe suffered another legal blow when the Supreme Court threw out his bail appeal. The court backed the High Court's earlier choice to keep him locked up. Both Chimombe and his partner have stayed locked up since June last year after many failed attempts to walk free. Their actual trial keeps stalling for different reasons, with court dates constantly pushed back. These delays mean they remain stuck in jail without having their case heard properly.

Lawyers Ashiel Mugiya and Lovemore Madhuku work for Chimombe during these court battles. The National Prosecuting Authority announced the Supreme Court's March 6, 2025 decision. They stressed that the government successfully showed why Chimombe should stay in jail. The judges found that all the original reasons for keeping him locked up still made sense despite what his legal team argued.
