The government loves how fast builders are making the Hills Luxury Golf Estate in Harare. This huge $300 million project will have 862 homes where about 4,310 people can live. West Properties Private Limited teamed up with the City of Harare to build not just homes but also a shopping mall, clinic, swimming and tennis center, plus a fancy golf course. Minister Soda Zhemu and Deputy Musa Ncube checked out the construction yesterday to see what had changed since President Mnangagwa started the project last year. Minister Zhemu seemed really happy with everything he saw there. The builders told him they had finished over 80 percent of the roads in the first phase and more than 60 percent of the drainage systems already. For the homes section, workers laid down the first layer on the roads and planned to add another before putting tar on top. The minister pointed out how smart their waste system is because it creates energy they can use throughout the development. They designed the sewer system to recycle water for plants around the property. They also plan to make electricity from biogas right there on site. The minister was impressed that they accomplished all this just six months after breaking ground. West Property chief projects officer Mandla Ndebele explained that this development mixes different buildings together. The first section alone contains over 800 homes, including apartments, villas, townhouses, and single-family houses. Ndebele mentioned they will finish more than 40 apartments very soon. Their current work focuses on phase 1A, which includes 48 apartments, 12 villas, 30 townhouses, and seven garden homes. Right now, they concentrate on basic infrastructure like roads, water pipes, and sewer lines. President Mnangagwa launched the construction last year in Mabelreign. Once finished, the estate should bring major benefits to Zimbabwe's tourism and sports industries.
