Police arrested two people selling fake cement in Luwero District, prompting Hima Cement to praise the quick action. Ronald Onyango and Dauda Mutesasira faced charges after officers found counterfeit products with Hima, Tororo, and Fundi labels during an April 5 raid. The search happened at both a hardware shop in Kasana Market and a home in Kalongo Zone. Officers discovered empty bags and unknown materials packed in sacks during the operation. Hima Cement promised to help the police with their investigation. The company released a statement on April 8 expressing strong support for law enforcement efforts. They sent technical experts to assist with the ongoing case immediately after learning about the arrests. Philemon Mubiru from Hima's marketing department called the illegal activity dangerous for customers and harmful to honest businesses. He warned that buildings made with fake cement might collapse and hurt people. Hima urged everyone to report suspicious cement by calling their helpline or sending an email to their office. According to official numbers, fake products remain a huge problem across Uganda. The Uganda National Bureau of Standards reports that almost 58% of items sold in the country fail to meet quality standards. This costs Uganda about 6 trillion shillings every year through lost taxes and damaged industries. Construction materials face particular problems with counterfeiting. Just recently, police stopped a shipment of 700 fake cement bags in the Tororo District. Criminals often put low-quality materials into branded packaging to trick buyers. Poor quality cement makes buildings unsafe because it lacks proper strength. When structures fail because of bad materials, people can suffer injuries or even die. The National Standards Office keeps warning about these dangers, but the problem continues. Hima Cement stresses that they always focus on making safe, high-quality products for builders. They work alongside government agencies to find and stop fake cement operations everywhere in the country. Hima believes protecting customers matters most for their business reputation. The company wants to support honest construction projects and help Uganda build safely. As police continue looking into the Luwero counterfeiting case, Hima asks everyone to join the fight against fake products. They believe that hardware stores, builders, and home buyers must work together to stop this danger. This teamwork approach offers the best chance to protect both public safety and the economy from criminal activity.
