Split-tones serve a narrower purpose, adding a rougher multipitch texture where the instrument supports it. They are deliberate color, not a general realism switch. ACE's version stays practical. Let Smart mode get close, then adjust the places where a phrase needs a cleaner legato connection, a sharper attack, or a more obvious expressive effect. You do not have to flatten the entire line into one global setting. [HEADING=2]Instrument clips keep the performance data attached[/HEADING] ACE Studio stores more than notes inside an instrument clip. Its documentation says instrument clips can carry MIDI notes, articulations and Expression Control parameters. The expressive work therefore travels with the clip instead of living as a loose set of unrelated settings elsewhere in the project. Moving clips between track types is where you can lose some of it. ACE warns that type-specific information can disappear when a MIDI clip is moved to another track type, so shifting an instrument clip is not the same as moving an ordinary block of MIDI notes. For producers who sketch parts in another DAW, the division of labor is straightforward. Record or import the musical idea, let ACE create a first performance, then edit the specific behavior that sounds wrong. You can hear the phrase in context before spending time on microscopic performance edits. During editing, ACE plays a default preview sound when you click, move, or create notes, while the finished AI performance is rendered for playback. The split keeps basic note editing responsive even when the expressive version still needs synthesis, so you can fix pitch and duration without waiting on a polished render after every small move.
