The tribunal found out that two of the soldiers, Pte Emaru George and Pte Alfred Asinge, had been caught and taken to a special court for soldiers in Mbale. The tribunal was very upset about what the soldiers did to Gilbert. They said the soldiers acted like a "lynch mob" and were very cruel. The tribunal also said that the soldiers should have listened to a man named Gilbert Chepnoyen. He was a leader in the community and told the soldiers that Gilbert Cherotwo did not have a gun.
