Immigration Arrests Drammeh's Wife Over Passport

Immigration Officials Question Wife of Election Rigging Whistleblower.

Gambian immigration officers released Sira Touray on bail Monday after questioning her about her husband's departure from the country. Touray, wife of Mbemba Drammeh, posted bail of D100,000 and must report back Wednesday.

Drammeh, a former NPP member who joined UDP, claimed he helped rig the 2021 election for President Adama Barrow. After his December arrest and release on police bail, he fled to France. His escape led a Kanifing court to order his two sureties, Musa Kanteh and Saidou Bayo, to each pay D100,000 to the state.

The court issued an arrest warrant for Drammeh after police filed charges of seditious intent. Immigration officers visited his home yesterday and brought Touray to their headquarters in Banjul for questioning about a passport issued on January 20, 2025.

Sources say Touray told investigators she received Mr. Camara's passport and passed it to someone who gave it to her husband. In a recent audio message, Drammeh claimed senior police and immigration officers helped him leave the country.

Police spokesperson ASP Modou Musa Sisawo stated the police had no involvement in Touray's arrest. Immigration department officials did not respond to requests for comment.
