Parliament sanctioned 297 additional day care cancer facilities nationwide for the 2025-26 fiscal year. Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav announced this development during a written response to the Lok Sabha. The government initially planned 200 centers through the February budget proposal but expanded the number to 297. Each facility requires establishment costs reaching Rs 1.49 crores based on local requirements and infrastructure gaps. These centers will deliver chemotherapy treatments for patients referred from tertiary care hospitals. The nation currently operates 364 day care cancer centers across various states. Government support extends to 19 State Cancer Institutes and 20 Tertiary Care Cancer Centres through the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases. Financial assistance reaches Rs 120 crores for state institutes and Rs 45 crores for tertiary centers. The National Medical Commission simplified postgraduate oncology course requirements to expand specialized training opportunities. All 22 new All India Institute of Medical Sciences locations received approval for comprehensive cancer treatment programs.
