Intel picked Lip-Bu Tan as their new CEO during their tough times and unclear foundry plans. He told Intel workers he wants to "bring back Intel as a top products company, build a great foundry, and make customers happier than ever." This makes those rumors about spinning off the foundry less certain. People talked about Intel possibly splitting off its factories completely or creating a joint deal where TSMC and American businesses like AMD, Broadcom, and NVIDIA would have some control. That might still happen. But just like Pat Gelsinger before him, the new CEO sees how important Intel's factories really are. Intel makes tons of products mainly because they have their factories. Without them, Intel would need to use outside places like Samsung and TSMC, dealing with more problems and longer wait times. Intel plans to use its upcoming 18A technology for its products and sell it to other companies. Special features like PowerVia backside power delivery and RibbonFET make the 18A design kit look better on paper than what TSMC and Samsung offer. Keeping these technologies and manufacturing abilities inside Intel matters greatly for both Intel and advanced chip-making in America. The foundry lost 13.4 billion dollars in 2024, but Intel thinks it will start making money by late 2027. After that, Intel's products and outside customers should keep the factories busy with enough money coming in to cover losses from recent years. Tan wrote that he feels humbled and honored to become CEO. He's always admired Intel since childhood, when he became fascinated by science, technology, and engineering. He mentions how Intel helped create many world-changing breakthroughs. But he admits past success doesn't guarantee future wins, especially in such a fast-changing industry with fierce competition. He knows Intel workers understand this and have faced hard times lately. He says challenges never scare him but actually motivate him to solve difficult problems. He believes Intel can remake itself at a critical moment in its history. He admits it won't be easy but joined because he truly believes they can win. He says Intel plays an essential role in technology both in America and worldwide. He feels confident they can turn the business around together.
