Meru County needs a new leader because the High Court backed the Senate decision to fire Governor Kawira Mwangaza. Her deputy, Isaac Mutuma M'Ethingia, steps up to fill her shoes. Judge Bahati Mwamuye decided on Friday that legal challenges failed to reverse what the Senate did. He stated that Mwangaza had plenty of chances to defend herself during the process. The government plans a ceremony where Mutuma takes the oath as Meru County governor. This will happen Monday morning at Mwendantu Grounds starting at 8:30 AM. Officials published this information on March 14 in an official notice to inform everyone about the big change coming soon to local leadership. Mutuma ran with Mwangaza back in 2022 without any party backing them. They beat major political players, including former Governor Kiraitu Murungi and Peter Munya. Mutuma worked for Kenya Prisons as a senior officer before entering politics. He also served as a Methodist Church pastor alongside his government career. His education includes several advanced degrees from Kenyan schools. He studied Forensic Psychology, criminology, and Theology at Kenya Methodist University. Mount Kenya University awarded him a Master's degree focusing on Governance and Ethics. Mutuma helped children through Plan International and represented young people with Habitat for Humanity across his region. His prison service included work on human rights issues and programs helping inmates rebuild their lives.
