Bangladesh's top security chief met with American diplomats yesterday to ask for more help fighting crime and terrorism. Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury sat down with US Embassy Deputy Chief Megan Bouldin at his office in Dhaka. The two officials talked about working together on security issues that affect both countries. Chowdhury told Bouldin that America has been a great partner in keeping Bangladesh safe from terrorists. He said US training and equipment helped make the police counter-terrorism unit much stronger and more effective. The American diplomat promised her country would keep helping Bangladesh fight security threats. Bouldin said every nation faces risks from terrorist attacks and Bangladesh is no different. She stressed that countries need to share information and work together to stay safe. Chowdhury responded by saying his security forces stay on high alert for all types of crimes. He revealed that extra guards and Coast Guard troops have been placed around the diplomatic area where many embassies are located. The meeting covered several important topics including online harassment of young women and how to prosecute criminals better. Both sides agreed that cooperation between their security agencies remains vital for protecting people. Several other officials from both the Bangladesh government and US Embassy also attended the discussion. The talks show how both countries want to keep working together on security matters.
