Jallow Leads Gambia's Bold Civil Service Makeover

Sheriff Jallow Named Permanent Secretary at Public Service Ministry

Sheriff Jallow is the new Permanent Secretary (PS) at the Ministry of Public Service. He took over on January 24, 2025.

Jallow was the director of the Civil Service Reform and Planning Unit (CSRPU), and he will continue to run it.

In 2018, the government launched the Civil Service Reform Program Strategy, a 10-year plan to modernize public services.

The strategy aims to:

• Optimize staffing in the civil service
• Attract and keep skilled workers
• Boost discipline and performance
• Bring back merit and professionalism
• Use technology to improve services

As head of PS and CSRPU, Jallow will work to achieve these goals and coordinate other reform efforts.

The reform program will run until 2027. It seeks to leverage ICT for better public services.

Jallow's appointment is part of the government's drive to transform the civil service. His role is key to the reforms' success.
