Kagame Prioritizes Regional Security in 2025 Address

President Kagame Vows to Protect Rwanda's Security.

Paul Kagame, the president of Rwanda, says keeping the country safe is the most important thing. He discussed this in a speech on December 31, 2024.

Problems exist in the countries near Rwanda, which worries Kagame. He promised to do whatever it takes to defend Rwanda.

Kagame is concerned about armed groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Some of them are close to Rwanda's borders. Rwanda thinks these groups want to attack their country.

Rwanda and Congo disagree about some things. Congo says Rwanda helps a rebel group called M23, but Rwanda says this is not true. Rwanda believes Congo has trouble controlling its own country, which is why there are problems.

Rwanda wants Congo to stop a group called FDLR. Rwanda says FDLR is a threat to them. But Congo has not gotten rid of FDLR yet.

Kagame said quick fixes won't solve these issues. He thinks the countries need to find a long-term solution, so everyone can have peace.

Other countries are trying to help Rwanda and Congo make peace, but it's not easy. Rwanda wants Congo to talk to M23, but Congo does not want to, as it says M23 is a terrorist group.

Kagame said all the countries in the area need peace. It can't just be for some of them.

He said Rwanda will continue protecting its borders and people and will not let others say untrue things about them.

Kagame wants Rwandans to stay hopeful and strong. He said they should be proud of aiming high in life.

He talked about Rwanda's elections. He said they showed that Rwandans trust their leaders.

Kagame also mentioned some difficult issues Rwanda faced. One was the Marburg virus, which Rwanda stopped in December 2024.
