Downtown Kampala traders paused business activities as religious leaders from All Saints Cathedral led the yearly Way of the Cross walk on Good Friday. The 2025 event carried the message Lord Wake Us Up and Save Us from Perishing as part of a national effort through the Uganda Joint Christian Council. Canon Frederick Balwa opened with prayer at the cathedral and spoke about taking time to examine personal lives during this spiritual day. He mentioned the group would make several stops along their route to share messages with people who needed them. The Archbishop planned to lead the main service at Old Kampala Playground instead of joining the walk. Canon Balwa encouraged Christians to renew faith, reflect, and forgive others like Jesus did. Traffic police escorted the group with a brass band as they moved through central streets, including Kyagwe Road and Gaddafi Road. Religious leaders gave short talks at each stop, catching the attention of people walking, selling goods, and driving vehicles nearby. Preachers, including Canon Dr. Rebecca Margaret Nyegenye, called for people to repent of sins and find renewal. The final gathering at Old Kampala Playground brought together Christians from many churches. Catholic members walked from Lubaga Cathedral as Orthodox believers started from Namungoona. The Good Friday procession stands as one of Uganda's most visible public expressions of faith across different Christian groups.
