Uganda's highest court freed Moses Kabareebe after judges found his rape case full of holes. The Supreme Court threw out his 10-year prison sentence on Wednesday. Five judges agreed the original trial had serious problems with the evidence. Kabareebe was locked up in 2021 for attacking housemaid Juliet Akello at his Kampala property. The victim's story kept changing throughout the court hearings. Akello told judges she had never had sex before Kabareebe attacked her. She later admitted having a baby months before the supposed rape happened. DNA tests proved Kabareebe was not the father of her child. The woman also kept talking to Kabareebe after she claimed he assaulted her. She let him ask her to hide the pregnancy and consider ending it. The Supreme Court slammed lower courts for ignoring these major contradictions. Appeal judges had noticed some problems but refused to deal with them properly. The prosecution could not prove beyond reasonable doubt that any crime took place. Legal experts said the evidence might have worked for a different charge but not rape. The judges stressed that serious doubts must favor the accused person. Kabareebe walks free immediately unless police have other charges against him. The ruling reminds everyone that prosecutors must prove guilt without question. Courts cannot convict people when witness stories contradict each other badly. The Supreme Court protects citizens from wrongful punishment through careful review of evidence.
