Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Supt Loi Yew Lik says the victim became suspicious when they demanded extra funds for him to withdraw his profits and original money. The man finally woke up to the scam when they kept making excuses about why he could not get his money back.

Police warn people to check before sending money to strangers who promise quick profits. The public can verify suspicious deals through the Semak Mule app or the JSJK PDRM Facebook page. People can also call the National Scam Response Centre at 997 for help. Loi says these Facebook investment scams are becoming more common across Malaysia. The police continue hunting for the criminals who stole the businessman's life savings.
