Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei believes politicians need different places to talk politics instead of churches. He backed the recent rule from Anglican Church Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit. The Archbishop banned political leaders from making speeches during church services. He said church leaders would just ask politicians to stand and wave. Cherargei wrote on X that he completely supports what Archbishop Sapit decided. He thinks church spaces should stay sacred for worship, prayer, and preaching only. He said political messages might make the altar less holy. Cherargei mentioned politicians could share messages at many events, even things like baby showers or bridal parties. Archbishop Sapit also changed how donations work. He declared that Anglican churches would stop announcing how much money people give. He told everyone just to give what God leads them to give without telling others the amount. The Archbishop added that politicians who want to address church members must do it outside the church building. Cherargei did suggest churches should create better ways for people to help build worship places. His comments come as many politicians have made a habit of taking church microphones to speak and hand over big cash gifts publicly. Many Kenyan leaders and citizens have shown anger about these new church rules. They think politicians should keep their right to speak during services.
